“Guccifer 2.0,” the hacker who claimed responsibility for the security breach, intercepted documents sent to the DNC on May 26, 2015 and posted them online earlier this week. The documents trumpet Hillary Clinton as the presumptive Democratic nominee a full year before she was announced as such and a month after Sanders launched his presidential campaign.
The documents list ways to counter the GOP presidential field and aimed to position Clinton for the general election by providing “a contrast between the GOP field and HRC.”
One memo urges the DNC to “use specific hits to muddy the water around ethics, transparency, and campaign finance attacks on HRC.”

Another memo advises the DNC to “utilize reporters to drive a message” and to leave “no fingerprints” so the public believes the message is coming from an unbiased third party and not the committee pushing their own agenda.
The DNC blamed the hack on the Russian government, but didn’t vehemently deny or affirm the authenticity of the documents.
