More people died of asthma this week alone than covid-19 killed all year

Covid-19 is causing panic across America. But the panic seems unwarranted considering the amount of deaths from other causes.

While the virus has mild to no reactions with 80% of it’s victims, 20% face severe cases. Of that 20%, a minority face death.

But the virus has not killed many people, considering it’s everywhere already.

Asthma for example kills on average 1000 people a day. So this past week, 7000 people worldwide died of asthma. That’s more than the Coronavirus outbreak has killed since it came around in December.

  1. Asthma deaths in the US average 68/week.

Since the first US death, COVID-19 is average 85/week and that number keeps climbing every day.

It is now surpassing asthma’s weekly average every single day.
    Mar 22 deaths = 111
    Mar 23 deaths = 140
    Mar 24 deaths = 225

Those three days alone are more than 7 weeks of asthma deaths combined.

  2. CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza
34,200 deaths from the common flu = 657 per week
covid 19 got nothing on the common flue yet…

    1. That is for the entire six month flu season. Because of the way exponential growth of viral diseases work, more than half of the infections occur in the 5th and 6th months of the flu season.

We are two months into COVID-19.

      Let’s say COVID-19 only infects 20M.

That is why epidemologists are concerned. Comparing the raw numbers of a six month flu season to the first two months of COVID-19 mislead people to thinking it’s not as bad.

Using the numbers you provided, flu has a 1.5% hospitalization rate; COVID-19 has a low estimate of 10%.
      490k hospitalizations for flu
      2m for COVID-19

Your flu number is .01% death rate, low end COVID-19 is 1%
      33k deaths for flu (1,375/wk)
      200k deaths for COVID-19 (8,333/wk)

Even if you think the COVID-19 are twice as high as the should be, it still would be much much worse than the flu
